The Guide

Motherboard Setup

Motherboard Assembly

The first step I would recommend is inserting the base components into the motherboard while it is out of the computer case. This gives you better visibility and elbow room for these more delicate operations. First, remove the motherboard from its box. It should be contained in a special anti-static bag (1). When you take the motherboard out of this bag, set it back down on top of the bag to prevent static discharge from your work surface as well as prevent dirt contamination (2). When handling the motherboard try hard to only touch the edges of the board (3). This will help avoid any circumstances that might damage anything either through physical contact or electrostatic discharge.

RAM Insertion

Next, remove the RAM from the packaging. The large majority of motherboards will have clips on the RAM slots that are pulled away from the slot to release. Release these clips by pushing outward (1). Now carefully pickup a RAM module the same way you handled the motherboard; only contact the edges with your fingers (2). If you don’t have big hands you might have to use two hands to do this. Next, notice that there are notches in the bottom of the RAM that line up with notches in the RAM slot below (3). Line up these notches and carefully set the RAM module into the socket (4). To secure the RAM module you will need to apply pressure to each edge of the RAM module straight down towards the motherboard until the clips re-lock (5). Repeat this process for all the RAM modules.
